Day 68 –
Gnylmarung to Broome
Birthday of
Kate. Just after dawn, Kate took her
morning coffee down onto the beach and sat on a rock, watching the seagulls and
the Indian Ocean do their thing. It was
dewy last night for the first time in ages.
All the tents dried fast enough in the morning sun though.
We packed up and
headed back to Broome. We couldn’t check
into our chalet until 2pm, so we used up time by getting deep fried delights
for lunch, then doing the grocery shopping.
We checked into
the chalet at the brilliant Broome Vacation Village, and brought most of the
stuff from the car into the chalet. Kate
settled in, while Ben, Keith and Nicole took the Delica out onto the street to
do some of the prep work for tomorrow, as “absolutely no mechanic work” is
allowed to be performed in the caravan park.
We finished the day in birthday style by getting takeaway from The Asian Noodle in Broome. Phad Thai, Laksa, Chicken Noodle Satay, Chicken Noodle Teriyaki, plus spring rolls and fried rice. Some of us ended up swapping meals with each other due to chilli preferences (Ben and Nicole like chilli, Kate and Keith don't).
After 67 nights
of sleeping in tents, we are about to sleep in conventional beds, in a
conventional building with floors, walls and ceilings. Also air con and a bathroom. What is this madness?!? Where are the stars and the moon, and why
can’t we hear the crickets or the birds?
We’re not complaining though, it’s a treat to leave the dust and dirt behind
for a couple of days.
