Day 19 - Loyalty Beach to Bramwell Junction. We headed south on the
Bamaga Road, then took Mistake Creek Track towards the Old Telegraph Track so
that Ben could say he'd driven some of the old Tele Track, and so that we could
stop at Elliott Falls/Twin falls for a swim. Was it a mistake? Not for this
Delica - although several people camped at a couple of the creek crossings
though so. They lined up to watch the spectacle of this funny "block of
flats on wheels" tow its little white trailer through the whoop-dee-doo creek crossings. The OTT was slow and hard work, but we eventually got to Elliott
Falls and Twin Falls, and were rewarded with beautiful scenery and a refreshing swim.
The car and trailer are splattered with red mud from driving on the
slightly wet in sealed road. It's quite a sight.
We pressed on and drove almost to Bramwell Junction where we found a gravel pit set back from the road. We had it all to ourselves. As we were setting up, the sun was setting, and a colony of bats took to the sky from the other side of the dam. There must have been hundreds of them. We could hear the beating of their wings. It was quite a marvel. The other advantage of having this gravel pit to ourselves, is that Nicole could entertain us with her guitar and amplifier after dinner. Wonderful.
