Day 60 – Gibb River Road - Bell Gorge day trip (Dalmanyi)
Some people left at dawn to drive to Bell Gorge. We left camp about 9am, and drove the 10km of dusty, windy, corrugated road. There were lots of other cars in the carpark, and as we were setting off, some people were already returning. There were 2 sections to the walk, a 1hr return to the first swimming hole, then a further 2 hr return to the next pool, for mountain goats (the trail markers had wallaby footprints on them). After initially protesting, Kate and Keith let themselves be persuaded to do the second part of the walk, and it was traumatic but nobody got injured, and the rock formations on the cliff faces in the gorge were spectacular. The pool was huge, and the water was refreshing. There was green moss or something growing on all the subsurface rock, which made getting in and out of the water challenging, but it was worth it.
