Another travel day – this time from Birdwood Downs to Broome. We packed up camp and said goodbye to the chickens, guinea fowl and peacocks. The road to Broome was all sealed and a nice break from the corrugations of the Gibb River Road. We stopped at a roadhouse on the way for an early lunch of deep fried delights and cold drinks as we weren’t expecting to reach Broome until about 1:30pm to collect the new air conditioner compressor from the post office. We got it, and pulled off the road because Dad wanted to pull it apart a bit and swap something with the old one. We needed a tool to take some snap ring things off the compressor, and found an Autopro shop to get one. We pulled over and finished the fiddling on the new compressor. Dad wanted to swap the clutches of the compressors so we took the front bash plate off and tried to do so. However it was too hard to, and Dad eventually gave up on it.
After that, we visited the mechanic so Dad could chat. The mechanic invited Dad to help out while they were doing the repairs next week, which Dad was very happy about.
We were planning on going up the Dampier Peninsula tonight but it was now past 4pm and none of us felt like doing so. We ended up camping at Broome Vacation Village (caravan park) overnight, at a powered site, given that they were more spacious, further from the road, and closer to the amenities. We set up, made dinner, and showered. We will drive up the peninsula tomorrow.
