Day 23 - Gregory to Hell's Gate. We sat in the car for 20 minutes in the
main street of Gregory, using our only Telstra phone to complete the Border
Entry forms for the NT since we'll be crossing the border tomorrow morning. I
might have dropped a few colourful words while doing it. I am SOOOO susceptible
to frustration while filling in online forms using a mobile phone.
Having done that, we headed for Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill Gorge). There are
campgrounds there but they are booked out months in advance, so we satisfied
ourselves with a day trip. We visited the gorge closest to the Carpark, and it
was a beautiful oasis. Giant palms, beautiful emerald-green water. Canoes were
available for hire, or you could use pre-booked tickets for a boat that took
you on a tour. There were also walks you could do, but it was too hot for us
and we were on limited time today. After about an hour there, we headed back to
the car, and onwards to Hell's Gate Roadhouse, where they had spacious camping
out the back, and delicious food. We suspect that this was partly to soften the
blow of diesel finally cracking $2 per litre
