Day 27. Mataranka to Darwin.
Glorious bitumen again. We still cannot get used to the speed limit being
130km/h, but I guess that's toned down from no limit. Of course we don't drive
that fast so we had plenty of opportunities to watch other people's relaxed
overtaking.
We stopped at Pine Creek to make our lunch, at Ben's request because
there is a railway museum here. The outdoor exhibits were quite interesting, on
how steam power was used to support gold mining.
In Pine Creek there was also a tree full of bats, flapping their wings
to stay cool in the hot noon sun. And also a tree full of old shoes that people
have flung up into the branches.
We eventually arrived in Darwin, and have settled into our site at a
caravan Park. We are looking forward to resting and re-setting for a week, and of
course, to Suzi Setchell and Troy Dunning's wedding on the
weekend.
A bit of trivia - we have travelled 7,500km since leaving Adelaide
almost a month ago.
